Youth Advisory Council
The office of Congressman Mondaire Jones is launching the Youth Advisory Council which seeks to provide high school age participants who live in the 17th Congressional District the opportunity to actively learn about Congress. It will allow students to learn about the bill making process through hands on activities and presentations. The program will culminate with a virtual presentation to the Congressman and members of the public by the students. The presentations will be based on topics of interest selected by the participants in the beginning of the program.
The program will run for a school year beginning in September and culminating in June. Students will meet once per month for 1-1.5 hours. The students will be divided into groups based on interest and are responsible for an end of year presentation. Each month’s meetings will be centered on a different topic and led by the staff member responsible for that issue area. Participants are expected to attend each meeting, with absences communicated to the staff point of contact. Students will not be able to continue with the program after 3 absences.
The only requirements are that the student must live in the district and they must be in high school by Fall of the new school year.
Interested students must complete this registration form and provide one letter of recommendation. The deadline to apply and submit all materials is Friday, September 13, 2021.
