JONES VOTES TO DELAY OBAMACARE MANDATES
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted for a pair of bills that would delay two of the most disastrous requirements included in President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law. The first piece of legislation – H.R. 2667 – would postpone implementation of Obamacare’s “individual mandate,” which imposes a fine on Americans who do not have health care coverage. The second bill – H.R. 2668 – would also delay implementation of Obamacare’s “employer mandate,” which requires businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health insurance to those employees. Under Obamacare, both mandates are scheduled to go into effect in January of 2014. H.R. 2667 and H.R. 2668 would push back the implementation dates to the beginning of 2015. Both bills passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support and will now go to the Senate for further consideration.
“When the president himself has been forced to admit that his employer mandate is problematic, delaying implementation is the least that should be done by Congress,” said Jones. “Furthermore, private citizens deserve the same reprieve as businesses from the fines imposed by the burdensome, unprecedented individual mandate. I will continue to fight for a repeal of the entire Obamacare law, which serves as a roadblock to economic growth by plaguing small businesses with excessive regulation, eliminating over one million jobs, and raising taxes.”
Congressman Jones voted against Obamacare each time it was considered in the House, and he has cosponsored every piece of legislation aimed at repealing all or part of the law.
