JONES VOTES AGAINST GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday U.S. Representative Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted against the government takeover of health care. Jones joined all of his fellow House Republicans in voting against the Senate health care bill, which allows for publicly funded abortions, cuts to medical care for veterans and their families, and massive cuts to Medicare. Government mandates, $569 billion in job-killing tax hikes and $1.2 trillion in new government spending are also apart of this extensive health care takeover by the federal government.
“America cannot afford this bill,” said Jones. “The Democrats have not listened to the American people and have now strapped future generations with the burden of paying off this tremendous piece of legislation, which will cost at least $1.2 trillion by 2020.”
“I cannot support a bill that includes an unconstitutional mandate that requires every citizen to have insurance, increases taxes on small businesses and does not have adequate protections to ensure that federal dollars will not be used to pay for abortions. This is not the way to reform the health care system in this country.”
The bill raids Medicare and Social Security to grow the size of government and pay for a new entitlement. Social Security recipients are about to lose $53 billion to help pay for the massive health care bill and make it appear not to cost $1 trillion. President Obama vowed not to raise taxes on families making less than $250k a year, however there are 12 different taxes in the health care bill that break that promise. In fact, it is estimated that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will need to hire 16,500 additional employees to enforce all the new taxes and penalties in the government takeover plan.
“This country needs health care reform, but this bill is not the way to go about it. America is broke and this bill is going to add to the national deficit,” said Jones. “We need smaller government and the passage of this bill just gave the government more power than it’s ever had. The citizens of this country should be protected from, not forced into, a federal health care policy that goes against the United States Constitution. The American taxpayers will rue the day the Democrats forced this bill down their throats.”
