Apr 4, 2018 Issues: Illegal Immigration

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) commended President Donald Trump’s call to send National Guard troops to protect the southern border, and issued the following statement:

“I support the president’s decision to work with border state governors to deploy troops to the Mexican border and protect our country against the dangerous invasion of illegal immigrants,” said Congressman Jones.  “I have long advocated such an action until stricter border control measures are in place.  It makes no sense for our troops to be protecting the borders of foreign countries like Afghanistan while our own borders remain unsecure.”
The deployment of American troops to the southern border is not without precedent.  In fact, Congressman Jones’ grandfather was deployed to the southern border before his service in World War I in the U.S. Army.  More recently, both Presidents Bush and Obama deployed troops to aid in protecting the United States’ southern border.

Jones has long supported strong borders and has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration.
