JONES REQUESTS EXPEDITED EMERGENCY DECLARATION FOR STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

Sep 10, 2018 Issues: FEMA and Natural Disasters

WASHINGTON, DC – In preparation of Hurricane Florence’s likely Thursday landfall, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-03) is asking President Donald J. Trump to expedite Governor Roy Cooper’s 2018 request for Public Assistance – Category B (Emergency Protective Measures) for all 100 counties in the state. As of Monday morning, Hurricane Florence has been projected to be one of the largest hurricanes to directly hit the Carolina Coast.

“I write in support of the North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s September 10, 2018 request for an expedited emergency declaration under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. This declaration would allow much-needed federal resources to be mobilized to assist in North Carolina’s preparation for Hurricane Florence,” wrote Congressman Jones in his letter. “As a representative of the coastal region of North Carolina, I request your expeditious consideration of Governor Cooper’s petition for an emergency declaration so that essential federal support can be utilized to help protect the people in this region.”

The full letter to President Trump is attached.
