JONES RECEIVES COMMENDATION FOR WORK TO FIGHT TERRORISTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) received a letter of commendation for his work to bring terrorists to justice from The Beirut Families, a coalition of surviving victims and family members of those killed in the 1983 bombing of the United States Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The attack claimed the lives of 241 Americans – many of whom were assigned to the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit deployed out of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina’s 3rd District – and wounded an additional 128. The letter thanks Congressman Jones for his ongoing efforts to remember the victims and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
“I am honored to receive a letter of commendation from The Beirut Families,” said Congressman Jones. “We must not forget the individuals in Beirut who suffered as some of the first victims of terror, and I will continue to fight to honor their sacrifice and bring their attackers to justice.”
