JONES INTRODUCES AMENDMENTS TO PROTECT PEOPLE OF FAITH, CRACK DOWN ON SANCTUARY CITIES

WASHINGTON, DC –  Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) introduced two amendments for consideration of H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act aimed at making significant improvements to the bill.

The first amendment fully repeals the Johnson Amendment of 1954 and returns the freedom of speech to our nation’s houses of worship and non-profits. Additionally, Congressman Jones introduced an amendment to rein in taxpayer subsidies for sanctuary cities.

“Time and time again, the American people have asked their representatives in Congress for bold action,” said Congressman Jones.  “My two amendments would help to fulfil two of those promises: to protect people of faith and to target sanctuary jurisdictions who refuse to follow federal immigration law.”

The House Rules Committee will meet later this evening to consider which amendments will be allowed a vote on the House floor later this week.
