WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) joined 79 of his colleagues in urging the Republican leaders of the House of Representatives to defund the implementation and enforcement of Obamacare through upcoming appropriations bills.  In a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the coalition pointed out that Obamacare is growing increasingly unpopular as it becomes apparent that the comprehensive healthcare law will have a significant, negative impact on the economy.  Moreover, the agency charged with enforcing several key components of Obamacare – the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – has violated the trust of the American people with its proven history of discriminatory practices.

“We in Congress must do everything in our power to prevent this job-killing law from taking effect,” said Congressman Jones.  “With its 2 trillion dollar price tag and excessive regulations, this unprecedented government takeover of our healthcare system will only serve as a roadblock to economic growth.  Americans simply cannot afford Obamacare – particularly at a time when the economy is struggling to grow.”

Congressman Jones voted against Obamacare each time it was considered in the House, and he has cosponsored every bill aimed at repealing all or part of the law.
