JONES DEFENDS FRC EAST AGAINST HARMFUL FEDERAL POLICY

Jun 14, 2013 Issues: Economy and Jobs, Armed Services

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) spoke out on the House floor in opposition to a proposed amendment that would allow the Department of Defense to lift the current moratorium on OMB Circular A-76 (A-76).  A-76 is a federal policy that, if implemented, could allow the contract work currently performed at FRC East to be awarded to another facility.

“There is no need to reinstate a federal policy that the Department of Defense has publicly called costly and ineffective in its current state,” said Congressman Jones.  “We need to provide our armed forces with equipment that meets the highest standard of excellence, and allowing our military depots – such as FRC East in the Third District of North Carolina – to continue their work without the ill effects of A-76 is the best way to do that.  Moreover, these facilities and the jobs they represent are crucial to the success of local economies.”

Congressman Scott Rigell (VA-2) introduced the proposed A-76 amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014, H.R. 1960.  The amendment failed by a vote of 178 to 248.  The House will vote on passage of the complete H.R. 1960 this afternoon.
