JONES CALLS FOR HEARINGS ON CIA’S SECRET CASH PAYMENTS TO KARZAI

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) called for the House of Representatives to hold hearings on the waste and abuse of American tax dollars in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.  In a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, Congressman Jones stated that “the House of Representatives has a duty to conduct vigorous oversight of the expenditure of the people’s money by the executive branch.”  The request comes in response to reports that for over ten years, the Central Intelligence Agency has secretly delivered tens of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars in cash to Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

“The American people are outraged by these revelations,” the letter reads.  “They rightly believe their hard-earned tax dollars ought to be spent  here at home, not secretly funneled to Hamid Karzai, a man who has publicly stated that he would ‘choose the Taliban’ over the United States.”
