60 PLUS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS JONES WITH “BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AWARD”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday on Capitol Hill, Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC) was presented with the “Benjamin Franklin Award” by the 60 Plus Association for his record of voting in the U.S. House of Representatives to permanently repeal the “death tax.”

60 Plus Association President Jim Martin noted, “It was Franklin who famously said there are two certainties in life, death and taxes, but because of the estate or ‘death’ tax, there is a third certainty – taxes after death. It is with a great deal of pride that 60 Plus honors Congressman Jones with the Benjamin Franklin Award because, if Congressman Jones has his way, we will get rid of that third certainty – taxes after death – and make Mr. Franklin’s famous quote accurate once again.”

Regarding the impact of the death tax, Mr. Martin went on to say that “it’s farmers and small businesses throughout North Carolina who suffer the most. Senior citizens know they can always depend on Congressman Jones to abolish this anti-farmer, anti-senior, anti-small business, confiscatory tax.”

The 60 Plus Association is a 17-year-old nonpartisan organization taking on issues such as death tax repeal, saving Social Security, working to lower energy costs, affordable prescription drugs and other senior-friendly issues featuring a less government, less taxes approach. 60 Plus calls on support from nearly 5.5 million citizen activists.
