America was built upon Judeo-Christian values, and these values should be protected.
Where I stand
America was built upon Judeo-Christian values, and these values should be protected. During my years in Congress I have been a steadfast supporter of traditional marriage, the unborn, and the free exercise of religion. I am an active senior member of both the Values Action Team (VAT) and the Pro-Life Caucus.
Legislative Action in the 114th Congress
H.R. 153 - Would repeal the Lyndon B. Johnson Amendment of 1954 and return freedom of speech to our nation's houses of worship so that they may speak out on issues of the day without fear of reprisal from the IRS.
H.R. 148 - Would protect the rights of military chaplains to close a prayer according to the dictates of the chaplains' faith.
H.R. 2761 - The Sanctity of Life Act - Deems that life begins at conception and strips the Supreme Court of jurisdiction to rule on abortion-related cases.
H. Res. 399 - Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the House should consider legislation to protect traditional marriage and prevent taxpayer funding of abortion.
H.R. 2802 - The First Amendment Defense Act - Would prevent the federal government from discriminating against any individual or group, whether nonprofit or for-profit, based on their beliefs that marriage is the union of a man and woman or that sexual relations are reserved for marriage. That protection would extend to tax policy, employment, licensing, accreditation, contracting and grants.
H. Res. 359 - Providing that the House of Representatives disagrees with the majority opinion in Obergefell et al. v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
H.R. 3134 - The Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 - Would immediately halt all sources of Federal funding to Planned Parenthood and its affiliates for a one year period.
H.R. 3197 - The Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act of 2015 - Which would permanently defund any entity that provides abortion or funds other entities that do abortions.
H.R. 803 - The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act - Which would provide authority to the states to prohibit a minor from receiving an abortion without parental consent.
Letter to Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader McCarthy, and Majority Whip Scalise stating that the signatories cannot and will not support any funding resolution – an appropriations bill, an omnibus package, a continuing resolution, or otherwise – that contains any funding for Planned Parenthood, including mandatory funding streams, unless and until they cease this almost indescribable practice.
Letter to Attorney General Lynch asking for an independent counsel to be appointed to investigate Planned Parenthood.
Letter to Speaker Boehner asking for the House to vote on legislation to defund Planned Parenthood.
Letter to Senate Majority Leader McConnell, asking the Senate to consider the pro-life legislation the House has already passed.
