Campaign Finance Reform
It is time to return power to the people and get big money out of politics.
I am greatly troubled by the undue influence that fat cat lobbyists and special interests have in Washington, DC. Now, more than ever, secretive special interest money plays an enormous role in our electoral process and in governing. Beginning in my days in the North Carolina General Assembly, I have long advocated for returning power to the people and getting big money out of politics. To that end, I am the co-chair of the Campaign Finance Reform Caucus, and have supported numerous campaign finance reform legislative efforts.
Legislative Action in the 115th Congress
H.R. 20 – Government by the People Act - Which would empower everyday Americans to gain influence in politics by matching small dollar contributions to candidates who agree to leave the current system of big money donations.
H.R. 1341 – Stop Foreign Donations Affecting Our Elections Act - Which would increase disclosure requirements for online contributions, thereby making it harder for foreigners to influence our elections.
