Honors and Awards

Since his election in 1994, Congressman Jones has been recognized by a number of different associations and organizations for his efforts in Congress.

Some of these honors and awards include the following:

  • In June 2017, the American Conservative Union (ACU) presented Congressman Jones with the Award for Conservative Excellence. This award recognizes congressmen who vote in support of conservative grassroots legislation at least 90% of the time. Congressman Jones proudly recieved a 96% rating.
  • The National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the nation's leading advocacy group for small business, presented Congressman Jones with the Guardian of Small Business Award in September 2016. This award is given to members of Congress with a strong voting record in support of American small businesses.Congressman Jones also received this honor in 2010, 2008, and 2006.
  • In September 2016, American Promise, the nation's leading advocacy group for overturning ​Citizen's United v. FEC, presented Congressman Jones with the 1st Annual Congressional Leadership Award. This award is presented to former and current members of Congress who advocate for fair representation in government for the people. 
  • In July 2016, FreedomWorks, one of the top grassroots conservative organizations, presented Congressman Jones with the Freedom Fighter Award. This award is presented to members of Congress who consistently vote to defend economic freedom. Congressman Jones had a nearly-perfect rating on FreedomWork's annual scorecard.
  • In June 2016, The American Logistics Association awarded Congressman Jones with the Distinguished Service Award for his commitment to improving the quality of life for active duty and retired military, veterans, and their families.
  • Campaign to Fix the Debt, a nonpartisan organization focused on putting America on a better fiscal and economic path, presented Congressman Jones with the Fiscal Hero Award in May 2016. The Fiscal Hero Award is given to lawmakers who distinguish themselves by casting fiscally responsible votes and pushing their party leaders to make addressing the debt a priority in Congress.
  • The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has consistently rated Jones as a Taxpayer Hero since 2013 in recognition of his commitment to voting to cut waste and fraud, and to improve transparency in Congress. 
  • In October 2015, the U.S. Business and Industry Council presented Congressman Jones with the Defender of the American Economy Award for his opposition to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which gave the executive branch a "fast track" to negotiate trade agreements.
  • Congressman Jones was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Military Officers of America (MOAA) in April 2015. He received this certificate for "representing thousands of MOAA members and their families in NC," for his "support of a strong national defense," and for "ensuring our nation keeps its commitments to currently serving, retired, and former members of the uniformed services and their families."
  • The American Conservative Union (ACU) recognized Congressman Jones as a select group of House ACU Conservatives in April 2014 for his record of voting to defend constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, free markets, a strong national defense, and traditional values.
  • In May 2014, the Beirut Families, a coalition of surviving victims and family members of those killed in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, gave Congressman Jones a letter of commendation for his work to bring terrorists to justice. The letter thanks the congressman for his ongoing efforts to remember to victims and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice
  • Congressman Jones earned an "A" rating from Stand Against Spying, a coalition of pro-privacy organizations, in 2014. The coalition rated each member of Congress based on their voting records and cosponsorship of certain surveillance-related bills, with Congressman Jones earning the highest possible mark.
  • In August 2014, Congressman Jones received a perfect score on the Freedom Index, a congressional scorecard based on 10 votes chosen by the editorial board of The New American. ​The votes reflect "adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements." Jones was one of only seven House Rpublicans to receive a perfect score.
  • The Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) awarded Congressman Jones with the True Blue Award for his commitment to pro-life and pro-family values in 2005, 2006, and 2013. In March 2013, Congressman Jones earned a perfect 100 percent on the FRC Action's scorecard by consistently voting to defend faith, family, and freedom.
  • In 2012 and 2014, the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), a coalition of leaders in healthcare companies and organizations from across the nation, honored Congressman Jones as a Champion of Healthcare Innovation. The HLC presents this award annually to lawmakers who display a commitment to patient-centered medical progress.
  • In June 2010, The Hill newspaper listed Congressman Jones on their 25 Hardest Working Lawmakers list. Congressman Jones was named #17 out of the 535 Members of the House and Senate. He was commended for his work with our military, as well as his willingness to always make time to speak with constituents.
  • Congressman Jones earned a 100% rating from the Christian Coalition of America (CCA) on its annual Congressional Scorecard in 2010. The CCA rates each member of the House and Senate based on their votes on issues impacting faith and families.
  • In May 2009, the Gold Star Wives of America presented Congressman Jones with the 2009 Appreciation Award “for his unwavering efforts to safeguard the health benefits promised to service members, their families and survivors; for his compassionate diligence in assisting individual beneficiaries, championing their causes before federal agencies to assure timely resolution of their concerns; for sponsoring the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax (HEART) Act to permit families who receive the death gratuity to invest the full amount into certain tax-favored accounts; and for his work to include surviving spouses of active duty deaths in the Surviving Spouses Indemnity Allowance (SSIA).”
  • In February 2009, the Humane Society of the United States honored Jones for his role in enabling the family of Corporal Dustin Jerome Lee, a U.S. Marine Corps military working dog handler killed in action on March 21, 2007, in Fallujah, Iraq, to adopt their son’s canine partner, Lex. Cpl. Lee and Lex were a highly-trained explosives detection team.
  • The American Legion Department of North Carolina presented Congressman Jones with an Award of Appreciation for his work on the House Armed Services Committee and his many years of service to the state, its military personnel, and the many veterans that call North Carolina home.
  • In 2008, U.S. English, Inc. honored Congressman Jones with the A in English Award for his work to make English the official language of the U.S. and reduce government multilingualism. U.S. English, Inc. is the nation's oldest and largest citizens' action group dedicated to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States.
  • Association for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina presented Congressman Jones with its highest honor, the Home Care & Hospice Hero Award, in 2008. The award recognized Jones' unwavering support for home care and hospice programs that allow North Carolina citizens to have the preferred choice of affordable health care services in their homes, as opposed to costly institutional care.
  • In 2007, The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) awarded Congressman Jones the Col. Arthur T. Marix Congressional Achievement Award for championing legislation to protect retired military families against disproportional health fee increases.
  • The Military Coalition (TMC) awarded Congressman Jones their highest honor, the 2006 Award of Merit. Joe Barnes, TMC Co-Chairman and National Executive Secretary of the Fleet Reserve Association, presented the award to Congressman Jones for his work in championing the causes of health care and many other benefits for military families.
  • In 2005, the Marine Corps Reserve Association presented Congressman Walter Jones with the prestigious Major Frank M. Tejeda Leadership Award. The Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Michael Hagee, presented the award to Jones in honor of his dedication to America's servicemen and women and their families.
  • United States Business and Industry Council (USBIC) honored Congressman Jones with the American Values Award for "his outstanding service to the nation, his personal integrity, and his courageous fight to preserve the U.S. industrial base and to ensure a high standard of living for the American people.”
  • Congressman Jones was honored as a Friend of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) for his commitment to protecting the shores and beaches of Eastern North Carolina.
  • In 2006, Congressman Jones was named to U.S. Border Control's Hall of Fame in recognition of his voting record and leadership on border security and immigration issues.
  • The Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), the oldest and largest regional economic development association in North America, named Jones to the SEDC's Honor Roll of Legislative Achievement in Economic Development.
  • In 2005, North Carolina Christian School Association (NCCSA) presented their Christian Liberty Award to Jones for his dedication to protecting religious freedoms.
  • The National Tax Limitation Committee awarded Jones with their prestigious Tax Fighter Award for his work to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, to eliminate the death tax, to provide incentives for private savings, investments and job creation and to control the growth of federal spending.
  • The Fleet Reserve Association installed Congressman Jones as an honorary lifetime member for his work to improve the quality of life for active duty and retired U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps personnel.
  • The American Conservative Union recognized Jones among the "Best and Brightest" for earning consecutive, perfect 100% ratings in 1998 and 1999.
  • The Christian Coalition presented Congressman Jones the Friend of the Family Award for his faithful commitment to strong family values.
  • In 1997, the Center for Security Policy recognized Jones with the top Pro-National Security Award, an honor given to only 24 of 435 Members of the House.
  • The Veterans of Foreign Wars awarded Congressman Jones the title of Best Voting Record Rating Among North Carolina Representatives.
  • The United Seniors Association (USA) awarded Congressman Jones the Murphy Award for his dedication to solving issues that affect our nation's seniors.
  • The American Farm Bureau Federation has honored Congressman Jones as a Friend of the Farmer for his support of farm and agriculture-related issues.
  • The Watchdogs of the Treasury, Inc. presented Congressman Jones with the Golden Bulldog Award for his efforts to cut federal spending, eliminate waste, and reduce the deficit.
  • The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recognized Congressman Jones with the Spirit of Enterprise Award in recognition of his continued support of issues important to American business.
